Sarva Pitru Amavasya - A Hot Meal for 60 People - Kamothe - 10 October 2026

Some prayers are offered with flowers and water. Some are offered with a plate of warm food.

On 10 October 2026, Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Kasley Foundation volunteers served a hot meal to 60 people living in roadside huts in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai.

Why This Day Matters

Sarva Pitru Amavasya, also called Mahalaya Amavasya, is the last day of Pitru Paksha, the fortnight in which families remember and honour their ancestors. It is the day for everyone who could not perform the rituals on the exact date, so it is considered especially important. Giving food is at the heart of the observance. It is traditionally believed that food offered to the hungry in the name of our ancestors brings peace to their souls and blessings to the family.

Whatever one’s belief, the meaning is clear. We are here because someone before us fed us, raised us and cared for us. Feeding a hungry person is one of the oldest ways of saying thank you.

What Was Served

  • Puri
  • Aloo bhaji
  • Dal
  • Rice
  • Bhajiya
  • Papad
  • Kheer, prepared personally at our Founder’s home, to end the meal on a sweet note

A full plate, served hot, to people who rarely get one.

Served with Respect

Our volunteers, young and old, brought the meal to people where they live and handed it to each person themselves. A meal is not only nourishment. It is also a moment in which someone who is usually overlooked is seen, greeted and served with dignity.

The Gift of Food

Hunger does not wait for a good day to arrive. Annadaan, the gift of food, has always been among the most valued acts of giving, because its result is immediate: a person who was hungry is no longer hungry.

Food shared in memory of those who came before us, and in service of those who are hungry today.

Be the Reason Something Good Happens Next

Every meaningful change begins with someone who cares enough to take the first step. Will you be that person? You don’t need to be wealthy or have unlimited time. You only need the willingness to contribute in whatever way you can.
